Description:
Industries are increasingly prioritizing the assessment of durable (soft) skills—such as emotional intelligence, adaptability, and communication—through methods like behavioral assessments and scenario-based evaluations. These approaches enable credentialing organizations and employers to better understand how candidates collaborate, navigate complexity, and perform in real-world contexts, ultimately supporting a more resilient and future-ready workforce.
However, translating durable skills into scalable assessment formats remains a persistent challenge within the credentialing space. Many programs rely on multiple-choice questions (MCQs), yet these formats struggle to fully capture the depth and nuance of such competencies. As a result, organizations are experimenting with a range of approaches, including case-based reasoning, performance assessments, peer evaluations, EQ measures, and open-ended responses.
This session will explore how credentialing bodies can effectively target the core constructs of durable skills using assessment methods that are both psychometrically sound and operationally feasible. What balance can be struck between authenticity and scalability? And how can programs implement approaches that are both economically viable and adaptable across diverse certification contexts?
